THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Hotel Munchen Palace
Hotel München Palace sits on the quiet upper banks of the Isar in Bogenhausen, close enough to the English Garden that a morning walk there is routine rather than an outing. The building holds 89 rooms across six floors, part of the Preferred hotel group, and a garden tucked between Haidhausen and Bogenhausen, with its pergola and terrace, is where lunch and dinner move outside whenever the weather allows. Rooms come with marble bathrooms, parquet floors and a minibar; the suites add soundproofing and blackout blinds for anyone who sleeps lightly. The Palace Bar runs a daily afternoon tea from two until half past five, scones and clotted cream with a pot from its own TWG tea selection, and the restaurant, La Grenouille, pairs Bavarian dishes with French brasserie cooking. The one thing this hotel offers that few Munich addresses can match is its free bicycle fleet, which includes mountain bikes and children's and picnic models, with a sightseeing map handed over at reception. Upstairs, the sauna and steam room share the fourth floor with a Technogym fitness room and open directly onto a rooftop terrace of sun loungers above the garden. Pets are welcome for a small fee, and staff switch comfortably between English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Russian. This suits someone who wants Munich without being stationed in the middle of it, content to cycle in rather than walk everywhere; it will feel too quiet for anyone who wants Marienplatz outside the window, which sits 3.5 kilometres off. The garden and the rooftop terrace end up doing more work than either restaurant. Hotel München Palace sits on the quiet banks of the Isar near Munich's English Garden, with its own garden, a rooftop sauna terrace and a free bicycle fleet that includes children's and picnic models. Marienplatz sits 3.5 kilometres off, better suited to cycling in than walking.
Free bicycles, including mountain bikes and children's bikes, are available for exploring the city.
On-site parking is available in the hotel's own garage.
Dogs are welcome at the hotel.
An afternoon tea service with scones and TWG tea is served daily in the Palace Bar.
A concierge team is on hand to assist with reservations and local recommendations.
