THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Upper House Hotel
Pacific Place hums with shoppers and diplomats, but Upper House keeps its distance, floating clear of the noise with rooms that face Victoria Harbour or the green flank of the Peak. The tram to the summit, the ferries at the pier, Lan Kwai Fong and Hollywood Road's antique shops all sit inside a short walk. Yet the hotel's own scale is what registers first: 117 smoke-free rooms, natural materials, sculpture and original art standing in for the marble-and-gilt formula most luxury lobbies default to. Salisterra, on level 49, runs a Mediterranean menu shaped by chef Ricardo Chaneton of the Michelin-starred MONO, with a skyline view over Victoria Harbour that makes a working lunch feel like an occasion. Down at level 6, The Lawn offers grass, flowerbeds and rooftop loungers, an unlikely patch of garden this high above a financial district. What sets Upper House apart from other hotels in the district is the André Fu Suite, a room designed personally by the architect whose name is attached to hotels across Asia but rarely to a single suite carrying his signature. Business travellers get a business centre and multi-language staff, families get babysitting, and anyone arriving by car gets parking and a doorman. It is not a hotel for guests chasing sprawling pools or convention-scale ballrooms, and its smoke-free, design-led interiors will feel restrained to those wanting maximalist glamour rather than restraint. For a traveller who wants Central and Admiralty at her door without the volume turned up, Upper House does the quieter version of luxury well, and does it without needing to raise its voice. Upper House floats above Pacific Place with harbour views, a level-49 restaurant shaped by a Michelin-linked chef, and a suite designed personally by André Fu, not just styled in his name. It suits someone who wants Admiralty's energy without its noise, not those chasing ballrooms or big pools.

THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT

Your taste already has an address

Described by the hotel as its secret garden bar, The Lawn combines green lawns and fragrant flowerbeds with rooftop loungers on Level 6 of Upper House. The setting is built for picnic-style cocktails and garden bites, offering a quieter, greener counterpart to the harbour-view bars on Level 49.
