Usha Kiran Palace Hotel
Usha Kiran Palace sits inside a nine-acre estate beside Gwalior's Jai Vilas Palace, a white-and-yellow building raised in 1880 for Maharaja Jayaji Rao Scindia and opened as a Taj hotel in 2002. Forty rooms and suites spread across three floors, so the scale stays personal rather than processional, even with conference halls and event spaces built for weddings and corporate celebrations. Stone carvings and filigree work run through the property, and the Royal Suites carry them further inside, with Venetian mirrors, mother-of-pearl mosaics and canopied beds; the Luxury Villas add a private pool of their own. Meals lean on the same history: the Silver Saloon serves recipes kept from both the Maratha and Nepal royal kitchens, with live Gwalior Gharana classical music through dinner, a doubled royal lineage on the menu that few other palace hotels in India can claim. The Courts moves the same kitchen outdoors, under palm shade. Jiva Spa's treatments trace back to the 14th-century spa inside Gwalior Fort's Man Mandir Palace, and days can otherwise run between the outdoor pool, gym, sauna and steam room. Families are catered for with a kids' club, playroom and children's pool, though an extra bed adds 5,000 INR a night, with the number allowed varying by room category. The hotel also holds EarthCheck certification, an unusual pairing with all that gilt and stone carving. This suits travelers drawn to a specific, documented royal history rather than a generic idea of luxury, and less so anyone wanting spare, contemporary design or a downtown pace. Check-in runs from 2pm, checkout by noon, and arrivals can still be made by horse-drawn carriage through the same gates the Scindias once used. An 1880 Scindia palace turned 40-room Taj hotel on a nine-acre Gwalior estate, with Royal Suites, private-pool villas, and recipes from both the Maratha and Nepal royal kitchens. EarthCheck certified, and still reachable by horse-drawn carriage.

Completed in 1880 for HH Maharaja Jayaji Rao Scindia, the palace stands on a nine-acre estate beside Gwalior's Jai Vilas Palace and has hosted royalty and dignitaries for over a century. Ancient stone carvings and intricate filigree work throughout the building reflect its origins as a residence of the Maratha Scindia dynasty.
A children's playroom is available on site.
The hotel offers 24-hour reception along with early and express check-in.
