THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
RAAS Devigarh
Forty-five minutes out of Udaipur airport, past Delwara village, a man in a red turban waves the car through a cast-iron gate and the eighteenth-century fort of RAAS Devigarh comes into view at the foot of the Aravalli hills, in Nathdwara. The walk to reception is deliberate: through gardens and a temple courtyard, up a narrow stairway, so the palace reveals itself slowly rather than announcing itself at the door. Travellers who want fast check-in and instant buzz won't warm to this pacing; those willing to be led through marble archways, carved stone, and Mawari horse murals before they see a room will. What sets it apart from other heritage properties is that its 39 suites aren't variations on a template: each one is shaped by the actual proportions and history of the space it occupies, with arched windows framing the hills differently from room to room. Days can run toward the two pools, a spa with sauna and steam room, a library, or a picnic under the flowering night jasmine; a business center and playroom mean it works equally for a working trip or one with children, and pets are allowed. A short drive brings guests to the Eklingji temple complex, a thousand-year-old Shiva shrine with 108 shrines, and to the ruins at Nagda. Meals draw on produce grown locally and are served across settings like the Hawa Maha, where the room does as much work as the kitchen. Wi-Fi is free, as is on-site parking; an airport transfer runs at a flat fee. What stays with you afterward isn't the architecture but the staff, who anticipate what's needed before it's asked and never make the interaction feel scripted. An eighteenth-century fort at the foot of the Aravalli hills, reached through Delwara village, RAAS Devigarh's 39 suites are each shaped by the room they occupy, no two alike. Two pools, a spa, and a thousand-year-old temple complex nearby fill the days, while the staff make every interaction feel unscripted.

Each of RAAS Devigarh's 39 suites is shaped by the actual proportions of the palace space it occupies, rather than a repeated floor plan. Rooms feature marble inlay, carved stone and arched windows framing views of the Aravalli hills, so the design shifts from room to room instead of following a single template across the property.
