THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Oberoi Udaivilas (S)
The Oberoi Udaivilas sits on 200-year-old hunting grounds of the Maharana of Mewar, spread across 30 acres of garden on the banks of Lake Pichola, close enough to Udaipur's center to reach on foot but built so its domes and corridors mirror the canal system linking the city's seven lakes, an architectural detail rivals on the same water do not attempt. Opened in 2002, the resort holds 87 rooms across two floors, and several suite categories, including the Kohinoor and Luxury suites, come with a private pool rather than a shared one down the corridor, a real difference for anyone weighing a resort stay against a hotel room. Days can be spent between an outdoor pool, a gym, and a spa offering massage, sauna and steam room, though treatments need booking ahead since slots fill. A library and picnic area suit those who came for quiet, while a restaurant, bar and cafe cover meals without a trip into town. Families are looked after too, with babysitting on offer and connecting rooms available on request, though the resort's pace and pricing favor a couple or a solo traveler over a group chasing nightlife. Wheelchair access and a lift cover practical needs, and the airport transfer runs a flat 4,000 rupees each way, best arranged before landing. Pet owners should look elsewhere; none are allowed, and no exceptions are made for service animals either. What lingers after the stay is not the amenity list but the sense of a building laid out, corridor by corridor, to answer to the lake it was built beside. A resort on the banks of Lake Pichola, its domes built to mirror the canal system linking Udaipur's seven lakes, with select suites holding a private pool of their own. Suits a couple or solo traveler after spa days and quiet, not a group after nightlife; pets aren't permitted.
