THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Banyan Tree Macau
Check-in is at three in the afternoon, and by then the lift has already carried thirty-one floors of guests past a lobby built in 2011, when Banyan Tree Macau opened as a 256-room tower five kilometres from the old town, closer to the Venetian Macao Casino and Cotai Arena than to Mandarin's House. The Standard King Suite alone runs to 1076 square feet, with blackout blinds, a soundproofed wall, a full double bed, a private bathroom and a safe, more space than most hotels in this strip bother to offer. What sets this one apart from its casino-hotel neighbours is the Grand Resort Deck, an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, a private beach and a water park, free to every guest staying here, alongside a children's pool and babysitting on request, the kind of setup that makes a family stay work without a single trip off property. Couples without children get the same water park emptied out early or late, plus a spa, sauna and massage rooms, a gym, and a casino and sun deck for the hours between. An extra bed runs 1,147.70 MOP a night, capped at two children per room, and a security deposit of 1000 MOP a night applies at check-in; pets are not allowed. None of this suits anyone hoping to walk to Macau's colonial streets; the location favours taxis and casino shuttles over a stroll to Mandarin's House. What it delivers instead is a resort built into a casino city, water park included, which is the rarer thing to find here than another gaming floor. Banyan Tree Macau is a 256-room tower five kilometres from the old town, built round a free water park with pools, a private beach and a spa. It suits families and couples wanting resort space in a casino city, less anyone hoping to walk to Mandarin's House.
