The Palacete building at Bela Vista Hotel & Spa has stood on this cliff above Praia da Rocha since 1918, its original structure kept intact, blending Portuguese heritage with oriental echoes in warm tones and gold detail, one wing of a 38-room resort spread across two low floors in Portimao. Reaching the beach means taking the direct access down from the cliff instead of crossing a road, and the same perch keeps many rooms facing straight out to the Atlantic. This is a Relais & Chateaux property that does not recommend itself for children, so it suits couples, golfers working the courses nearby and travellers wanting a spa afternoon without noise more than it suits families. The spa runs treatments alongside a sauna and steam room, and guests who prefer to stay active have a fitness centre, tennis court, diving club and a stretch of water for sailing and windsurfing. Inside, there is a casino and a library, an unusual pairing for a resort of just 38 rooms. Marina de Portimão and a shopping centre are a short drive off, and the city centre itself is a walk away, with Rocha Beach, Rock Beach and Três Castelos Beach strung along the coast within reach. Rooms carry bathrobes, minibars and VIP amenities as standard, with private check-in meant to get the paperwork out of the way quickly.
