THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Palacio de Tavira
In Tavira's old town, a former 18th-century Tavares family residence now houses 36 rooms behind thick walls that once staged receptions, political debates and social gatherings for the city's leading figures. Palacio de Tavira keeps that pedigree quiet: courtyards, clay and lime finishes, and light that moves through the day rather than announcing itself. Some rooms open onto balconies, others onto a private patio, and the newer Medina wing folds in Moorish detailing alongside the palace's Portuguese grandeur. At Mirsal, chef Fábio Domingues, who trained across Europe before returning to his hometown, sends out Algarve octopus, spiced lamb with apricot and almond, and saffron risotto meant for sharing. Bar da Lua keeps the evening going with cocktails built from local fruit and herbs. The hotel was named Best Boutique Hotel Portugal at the 2026 Publituris Travel Awards, a distinction most addresses nearby cannot claim. There's a spa, a conference hall, free Wi-Fi throughout, and wheelchair access to the restaurant. Reception runs around the clock and the property is smoke-free; pets stay home. Golf players get more than fifteen courses within half an hour's drive, while walkers can reach Casa das Portas, the Camera Obscura and the salt pans toward Quatro Águas on foot. This suits someone who wants a historic address with a working kitchen and a bar worth lingering at, not someone chasing a beachfront pool or late-night nightlife. Extra beds run 90 euros a night, and check-in isn't until three in the afternoon, so plan the arrival accordingly. What stays with you afterward isn't the architecture itself but the sense that the palace never stopped being lived in, only changed who was doing the living. A restored 18th-century Tavares family palace in Tavira's old town, with 36 rooms, a Mediterranean restaurant led by chef Fábio Domingues, and 2026's Best Boutique Hotel Portugal award. Golfers get fifteen-plus courses nearby; anyone wanting a beach club or nightlife should look elsewhere.

THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT

Your taste already has an address

Each afternoon from 4 to 6pm, the hotel offers three freshly shucked oysters paired with a glass of sparkling or white wine, priced at 17€ per person. Served as the light softens over the old town, it is described as a refined, unhurried ritual celebrating Tavira's coastal spirit.
The property offers wheelchair access, including to the restaurant.
