THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
JW Marriott Jeju Resort & Spa
On a clifftop above the East China Sea, where the Jeju Olle Trail runs straight through the grounds, JW Marriott Jeju Resort & Spa sets a cantilever roof that inverts the convex curve of Jeju's traditional Choga thatch huts, with lava rock gabion walls that filter light the way the island's volcanic stone always has. WATG completed the design in 2023, carrying the reference further into guestroom facades patterned after Jeju's stacked stone wishing towers, and in 2025 the resort was awarded a Michelin Key. The 197 rooms sit across eight floors, from Deluxe and Premium rooms with garden or ocean views to a two-bedroom oceanfront family suite with bunk beds, each opening onto a private balcony. Inside, there is a spa with sauna and steam room, a gym, indoor and outdoor pools with a separate pool for children, and Green Key certification behind the scenes. Two restaurants, a coffee shop, and a poolside bar handle the food, with Island Kitchen the one people bring up first. This suits a woman who wants design with a real idea behind it and a coastal trail she can walk before breakfast. It will not suit anyone hunting nightlife, or anyone who wants a small, quiet boutique instead of a full-scale resort; this is a property with five meeting rooms, a children's playground, and babysitting on request. Check-in runs from 3pm, checkout by 11am, and a damage deposit of 100,000 KRW a day is collected on arrival. What lingers after the stay is that roofline against the sky, built to answer the land instead of dominating it. A clifftop resort on Jeju Island where WATG's cantilever roof reinterprets the island's thatch-roofed Choga huts, earning a Michelin Key in 2025. The 197 rooms open onto private balconies, with a spa, pools, and the Jeju Olle Trail running through the grounds.
