THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Signiel Seoul
Signiel Seoul occupies 26 floors as Lotte's signature luxury landmark, the first of its kind representing Korea, and it shows in the scale of the place: 235 rooms, four distinct restaurants and bars running from STAY's French menu to Bicena's Korean plates to Champagne at BAR 81, and a Lobby Lounge where deals seem to get closed as often as coffee gets ordered. Rooms run large by any city standard, the smallest of the listed categories at 431 square feet, the Premier King Suite stretching to 753, each with a soundproofed shell, blackout blinds, a mini bar and a proper desk, details built for someone who works a full day before she cares what the view looks like. Staff speak Korean, English, Chinese and Spanish, the hotel runs an indoor pool, sauna, spa and fitness room, and keeps a business center and conference hall on hand for anyone whose trip has an agenda. None of it is casual: a damage deposit is collected at check-in, an extra bed costs 60,500 KRW a night, and the airport transfer runs 18,000 KRW one way, numbers that tell you this is a hotel built around precision rather than spontaneity. That precision is also the giveaway on who it does not suit: travellers wanting a loose, walk-in-anytime kind of stay may find the paperwork at the door tiresome. What it has, and what separates it from other five-star addresses in the city, is that landmark status, the first hotel of its rank built specifically to represent Korea rather than to serve as one more international flag in Seoul. For a traveller who has already stayed everywhere else, that distinction is the whole pitch. Signiel Seoul is Lotte's landmark hotel in Seoul, 235 rooms across 26 floors, four restaurants, a spa and indoor pool, built for structured travel rather than spontaneous stays.
