THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Can Alberti 1740 Hotel Boutique
On the roof terrace after dinner, the bell towers of Mahon's old town go copper in the last light and the bay, the longest natural harbour in Europe, spreads out below with its scatter of islands. That view belongs only to guests here. Can Albertí 1740 Hotel Boutique sits in a stone house the Albertí family built in 1740, and their coat of arms, granted when Vicente Diego Albertí Mercadal was knighted in 1711, still marks the balcony. The restoration kept the original layout, the main staircase, courtyards and thick walls, while adding minibars, safes and daily housekeeping to the fourteen rooms spread across three floors. Ask for one of the suites with a terrace if you want your own slice of that rooftop view. Downstairs, a treatment room carved under a marble stone vault runs candlelit massages, Pilates and yoga sessions, arranged with reception rather than bolted on as a spa menu, which is not something its four-star peers in central Mahon can offer. There is a garden, a shuttle, bikes for those who want to cover ground, and a walk of fifteen minutes to the harbour and the town hall. This suits people who want a small hotel with real history and are happy to explore Mahon on foot or by bike rather than lie on sand. It will frustrate anyone chasing beach access, since Son Bou and Santo Tomas are a twenty-minute drive out. With only fourteen rooms, book ahead for the terrace suites especially. What stays with you afterward is not the décor but the quiet, the sense of a house still being lived in rather than merely rented out. Fourteen rooms in a stone house built by the Albertí family in 1740, a rooftop over Mahon's bay, and a vaulted treatment room for massage and yoga. Better suited to old-town wanderers than beach seekers, since the sand is a twenty-minute drive away.

Beyond its restored rooms, the property keeps a garden and terrace areas that give guests places to relax outdoors within the historic centre of Mahon. These outdoor corners complement the rooftop terrace above, offering a quieter counterpoint to the old town's winding streets just outside the door.
