THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Adria Boutique Hotel
Behind the stucco façade of a nineteenth-century townhouse on a quiet South Kensington street, The Adria keeps a piece of history within reach of its guests: since 2024 it has hosted part of the Chitra Collection, one of the world's most significant private holdings of historic teaware, its silver pieces set out in the lounges rather than locked behind glass, part of the daily life of the house rather than a museum stop. That closeness sets the twenty-four-room hotel apart from the bigger names nearby. The Natural History Museum is five minutes on foot, the Victoria and Albert nine, Harrods and the Royal Albert Hall each about fifteen, so days can run on foot rather than taxi meters. Rooms climb from compact Superior doubles, designed with couples on a sightseeing weekend in mind, through Deluxe and Executive, the latter with a four-poster bed, up to Junior and Signature suites with their own lounge areas; all keep Italian marble bathrooms, underfloor heating and bathrobes as standard. Breakfast is à la carte, afternoon tea is served in the dining room, and evenings often close with champagne in the Games Room. There is no onsite parking, so drivers should plan on the secure car parks nearby, and a five percent service charge applies to room rates unless a guest asks to have it removed. A playroom and babysitting cover families who want them, but four floors and twenty-four rooms make this a hotel that suits a couple or a solo traveller working through a museum list more than a group booking. What lingers is the sense that the objects in the lounge were chosen to be lived with, not photographed and forgotten. A nineteenth-century South Kensington townhouse with twenty-four rooms, minutes from the Natural History Museum, displaying part of the Chitra Collection's historic silver in its lounges rather than behind glass. Marble bathrooms and evening champagne suit couples and solo travellers more than groups.
