THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Asbury Ocean Club Hotel
At 1101 Ocean Avenue, the Drawing Room's floor-to-ceiling glass frames the pool terrace and the Atlantic beyond, and that view largely explains why the Michelin Guide handed Asbury Ocean Club a Key in 2025, a distinction none of Asbury Park's other hotels carries. The hotel sits directly next to the beach, a 70-minute drive or ferry from Manhattan, with the boardwalk, Silverball Museum and Stone Pony each about a hundred metres away. Fifty-four rooms and suites run from Standard doubles to Penthouse rooms with balconies and king beds, several with private terraces or garden views; a handful are wheelchair accessible, right down to restaurant access. The pool itself is seasonal and currently closed, so anyone booking purely for a summer swim should check dates before committing; the spa, 24-hour gym and complimentary third-floor yoga classes keep working through the off-season regardless. Concierge staff handle dry cleaning, laundry and luggage, and bikes are available for exploring the neighbourhood beyond the immediate blocks. Couples marking an occasion, and anyone travelling for the meeting studios that overlook the ocean, will find the scale right, three small event rooms opening onto natural light rather than a sprawling convention floor. Families should note the 400 dollar security deposit and that pets aren't permitted, both worth factoring into the budget. Wi-Fi in rooms carries a surcharge unless bundled into the resort fee, another line to check at booking. Check-in runs from 4pm, check-out at 11am, standard for a property this size. What stays with you afterward isn't the design details but the quiet of the Drawing Room itself, part bar, part living room, where the ocean does most of the talking. A Michelin Key on the Jersey Shore, steps from the boardwalk and Stone Pony, built around a glass-walled bar that opens straight onto the pool and ocean. Better suited to couples and small meetings than families, given the deposit and no-pet policy.
