THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Stonehurst Place
Stonehurst Place occupies an 1896 mansion built by textile magnate George Hinman on Piedmont Avenue, its pearlescent walls and marble bathrooms still carrying the weight of the Gilded Age even after a restoration turned the house into a six-room bed and breakfast. Two floors, spread across the main house and a carriage house, mean there is barely a corridor to queue in, let alone a lobby to cross. The hotel is adults-only, guests under sixteen are not permitted, and the property routinely declines bookings tied to bachelor or bachelorette parties, so anyone hoping for a rowdy weekend should look elsewhere. What separates it from Atlanta's newer boutique hotels is the building itself: a listing on the National Register of Historic Places, original hardware and layout intact, sitting roughly three kilometers from downtown in Midtown's gallery and restaurant district. Breakfast is included, there is a small bar and restaurant on site, and a garden and terrace give the house room to breathe. A spa and massage room, a library, and a conference hall cover both quiet mornings and the odd small meeting. Staff speak English and Spanish, and private check-in smooths arrival for anyone landing after a long flight, though it costs 75 dollars before 4pm and late check-out runs 100 dollars past 11am. This suits a couple wanting a historic address without hotel scale, or a solo traveler who would rather have six rooms than six hundred. It does not suit families, large groups, or anyone expecting a rooftop pool and round-the-clock concierge. What the restoration got right is restraint: the 1896 house stayed a house. A restored 1896 Midtown mansion turned six-room, adults-only bed and breakfast, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Suits couples and solo travelers wanting a historic address without hotel scale, not families, groups, or anyone chasing resort-style amenities.
