THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Hotel Goodwin
The needle drops on a turntable tucked into the corner of a Hotel Goodwin room, and out the window downtown Beloit sits two floors below, close enough to walk to for dinner. The hotel occupies the 19th-century Goodwin House building, and every one of its 34 rooms has its own turntable and curated vinyl collection, along with original art and a glass shower, a detail no chain competitor in town can match. Downstairs, Velvet Buffalo serves modern Italian food made from scratch, and a bar keeps the evening going before guests head up to the only rooftop in downtown Beloit, a spot that works as well for a wedding rehearsal as it does for a quiet drink alone. The Logan Museum of Anthropology, the Angel Museum and Pearl Lake are all within walking distance, and free self-parking and free Wi-Fi cover anyone who arrives by car instead. Rooms come with minibars, flat-screen TVs, private bathrooms and hairdryers, and the 24-hour front desk, laundry and dry-cleaning service handle the practical side of a stay. Pets are allowed for an extra charge, so the trip doesn't have to mean boarding the dog at home. In 2025 the MICHELIN Guide awarded Hotel Goodwin a Key, recognition for a stay that goes beyond a bed and a lobby, and the hotel has since landed in the top 10 percent of properties on Tripadvisor. Anyone who wants a record spinning while they get ready for dinner will find it here, in a 34-room house that would rather be distinctive than sprawling. Hotel Goodwin sits inside Beloit's 19th-century Goodwin House, where every one of the 34 rooms comes with its own turntable and vinyl collection. Downstairs there's an Italian kitchen and the only rooftop in downtown Beloit; MICHELIN gave it a Key in 2025. Pets ride along for a fee.
