THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Ivey's Hotel
Morning light comes through tall windows at The Ivey's Hotel, and the coffee arrives with a view of Uptown Charlotte's Fifth and Church streets rather than a parking lot. Built into the historic Ivey's building and opened in 2017, the hotel keeps its footprint tight: forty rooms across two floors, each finished with reclaimed French oak flooring, custom millwork and one-off artwork so no two feel copied from the next. Sophia's Lounge, named Best Upscale Cocktail Bar by Charlotte Magazine, is the detail competitors in this price bracket rarely match: a glass-stairwell descent into a room of velvet sofas and custom chandeliers, with craft cocktails from a master mixologist and sharable plates on the menu. A fireplace warms the lobby, the Library offers a quieter corner, and a fitness room, spa massages and a business center cover the practical asks. Guests traveling with a dog can bring it along for a $150 fee, though the $250 room deposit is worth noting before booking. Rooms facing the street get the pulse of Uptown after dark; sound-resistant glass and earplugs on request handle most of it, but anyone who needs total silence should ask for an atrium-facing room instead. This suits a couple wanting a boutique base within walking distance of the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and Bank of America Corporate Center, or a solo business traveler who needs a concierge and a business center on site. It will not suit anyone wanting a large resort with sprawling grounds rather than a forty-room, two-floor boutique building. What lingers after checkout is Sophia's Lounge, not the room. Forty rooms above Fifth and Church, all reclaimed oak floors and one-off art, built into Uptown Charlotte's historic Ivey's building. Sophia's Lounge, awarded Best Upscale Cocktail Bar by Charlotte Magazine, is worth the trip alone. Ask for an atrium room if street noise isn't your thing.
