THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Proximity Hotel
Proximity Hotel sits three kilometers from downtown Greensboro, close enough to the Bog Garden and the shops at Friendly Center that a rental car becomes optional, yet far enough that traffic noise stays outside. Built in 2007, it carries a design hotel designation and belongs to Quaintance-Weaver, a Greensboro company that became one hundred percent employee-owned in 2016. The 147 rooms range from a 398-square-foot Loft King with soundproofing and blackout blinds to a bridal suite, and the hotel keeps allergy-free rooms on hand for guests who need them. Downstairs, Print Works Bistro serves modern European food with garden views and alfresco tables, backed by a bar and a snack counter for anyone who wants something faster. Outside, a heated pool sits beside a water park, an unusual pairing for a hotel this size, and a 24-hour fitness center covers the early risers and the jet-lagged alike. Business travelers get four meeting rooms and a conference hall, families get a playroom and free bike rentals, and golfers have a course within reach. This suits someone who wants a hotel that runs like a well-managed small company rather than a chain outpost, and who would rather eat at the in-house bistro than hunt for dinner after a long day; it will frustrate anyone set on a downtown address or a boutique room count. What Proximity has that its Greensboro competitors don't is that ownership structure: the staff checking guests in own a stake in the place, and after a few interactions, it shows. Proximity Hotel sits three kilometers from downtown Greensboro, 147 rooms deep, with a heated pool, a water park, and Print Works Bistro downstairs. It's owned entirely by the people who work there, a detail guests notice. Right for substance over shine, not for a downtown address.

Adjacent to the hotel, Print Works Bistro turns fresh, local ingredients into creative comfort food, served in a dining room and bar set beside a creek. The restaurant shares the same employee-owned Quaintance-Weaver hospitality group as Proximity Hotel, making it a natural stop for guests without leaving the property.
Babysitting and a children's playroom are available.
