THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Post Oak at Uptown Houston
Oak trees and cascading fountains shade the entrance to a 38-story tower in Houston's Uptown district, nine kilometers from downtown and near the River Oaks District and the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. Inside, the atrium lobby holds a chandelier strung with Swarovski crystals, the first thing guests see after a doorman opens the door and before 24-hour reception checks them in from 4pm or out by 11. The Post Oak at Uptown Houston opened in 2018 with a hundred rooms, and one thing sets it apart from every other hotel in the city: direct helicopter pad access built into the tower, for guests who skip the drive entirely. Rooms range from standard kings to suites, several with mini bars, bathrobes, and blackout blinds, and the property runs to four restaurants, among them Mastro's Steakhouse, along with a poolside bar, a coffee shop, and 24-hour room service. Breakfast runs from 6:30 to 10:30 each morning for a fee. The spa covers massage, a sauna, and a steam room, there's an outdoor pool, a 24-hour fitness center, and a business center with meeting rooms and a conference hall for work. Concierge staff speak English and Spanish, a shuttle covers the area, and a pet under five kilograms can come along for a surcharge. This suits a business traveler with back-to-back Galleria meetings, or a couple booking the spa before a late dinner at Mastro's. It is less suited to anyone chasing Houston's older architecture or a quiet weekend, since the tower, the chandelier, and the helicopter pad are all built to be noticed. Few hotels in the city can offer a landing pad instead of a driveway. A 38-story tower in Uptown Houston, built in 2018, with a Swarovski crystal chandelier in the lobby and the only helicopter pad among the city's hotels. Rooms run from standard kings to suites, with four restaurants including Mastro's Steakhouse. It suits business trips more than a quiet weekend.
