THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Hotel Emma
Hotel Emma occupies a former 19th-century brewhouse on the San Antonio River, in the Pearl District at the northern edge of downtown, where design firm Roman and Williams blended the building's industrial history with contemporary furniture and finishes. The hotel has 146 rooms and seven top-floor suites, from Classic Cottages to rooms named for their private terraces, and it is the only hotel in San Antonio holding a Michelin Two Key distinction, alongside AAA Five Diamond status, a pairing the city has nowhere else. Guests eat at Supper, the seasonally driven American bistro, pick up provisions at Larder, the in-house market and deli, and drink at Sternewirth, the clubroom bar that functions as the social center of the hotel. There is a rooftop pool and an outdoor pool above the river, plus a library, a billiards room, free bicycle rental, a gym, and a massage room downstairs, along with conference space and a bridal suite for on-site weddings. Staff work in English and Spanish, concierge and dry-cleaning services are standing amenities, and a deposit of 125 dollars a day is collected at check-in. Breakfast runs 15 to 80 dollars per person and is not built into most rates. This suits someone who wants a hotel with an actual sense of place and a kitchen worth trusting, not a traveler who wants a predictable box near the interstate; anyone hoping to bring a pet should look elsewhere, since the property does not allow them. What nobody else in the city can offer is that Michelin Two Key mark on a riverfront brewhouse. Ask for the Terrace room if the river is the point of the trip. Hotel Emma turns a 19th-century San Antonio brewhouse into a 146-room riverfront hotel, the only Michelin Two Key property in the city alongside AAA Five Diamond status. Expect a serious restaurant, a rooftop pool, and a bridal suite for on-site weddings. Pets are not allowed.
