THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Adelphi Hotel
Check-in at The Adelphi Hotel is four o'clock, and by then the Victorian brick facade in downtown Saratoga Springs has already announced what waits inside: sixty-five rooms spread across four floors, each fitted with pillowtop beds, down comforters, Frette Italian sheets, a free minibar and an espresso maker. The address does the rest of the work, close enough to the Saratoga Springs Visitor's Center, Saratoga Golf Club and the racetrack that a morning can start on the terrace with coffee and end with a walk back from a day at the track. Evenings tend to move between Salt & Char for steak, Morrissey's Lounge for a drink, and the library for a game of billiards or a quiet hour with a book, with a spa booking left for the following afternoon. Business groups use the conference hall and meeting rooms, and couples use the ballroom and gardens for weddings, with pocket doors that open between suites for larger parties. What separates it from the usual downtown boutique stay is the residential wing: studio and suite rentals with full kitchens, in-unit laundry and private balconies, built for anyone staying long enough to want their own coffee machine and their own front door. Families get a playroom and table tennis to burn off energy, and dogs are welcome for a hundred-dollar deposit. It will not suit anyone chasing sprawling grounds or spare, minimalist rooms; the character here is ornate, staffed and thoroughly downtown. For a few nights built around dinner reservations, a spa afternoon and a walk to the track, it holds up. A restored Victorian hotel in downtown Saratoga Springs, close to the racetrack, with steak at Salt & Char, cocktails at Morrissey's Lounge and a residential wing of full-kitchen suites for longer stays. Sixty-five rooms, four floors, dogs welcome for a deposit. Built for ornate, staffed downtown stays, not minimalist retreats.
