THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Experimental Chalet
The building at Route de Verbier Station 55 was the Hôtel Nevaï before it was anything else, a mid-century Verbier fixture with the Farm Club already wired into its basement, and it was this pairing, hotel and nightclub sharing a wall and a secret internal passage, that caught the attention of Pierre-Charles Cros, Romée de Goriainoff and Olivier Bon, the three childhood friends who opened their first speakeasy, the Experimental Cocktail Club, in Paris in 2007 and have been expanding on their own terms since, London's Henrietta Hotel in 2017, then Verbier the following winter. They took over the Nevaï's 39 rooms and suites, kept the Farm Club exactly where it was, founded in 1971 by Serafino and Giuseppe Berardi and still the reason half of Verbier stays out past two, and handed the redesign to Milanese architect Fabrizio Casiraghi, whose name now appears on every Experimental property built since. Casiraghi's interiors run on mid-century resort references rather than the usual reclaimed-timber alpine vocabulary, deep jewel tones and pale sorbet shades against lacquered wood, geometric mirrors doing the work that antler chandeliers do everywhere else in the valley. Rooms come with an in-room espresso machine and a minibar stocked with a pre-filled hip flask meant for the mountain, not the room. Downstairs, the restaurant, now run under the Le St Bernard name with Chef Rudy Ballin cooking a menu rooted in Valais produce, mountain cheeses, local meats, Swiss wine, sits beside the first-floor Experimental Cocktail Club, and the spa, a collaboration with Biologique Recherche, has three treatment rooms, a hammam, and a terrace jacuzzi facing the Grand Combin. This is a hotel that assumes you will be out later than you planned. The Farm Club connection means the building runs on two clocks, ski mornings and cocktail-fuelled nights, and the staff, dressed in Fusalp, seem entirely unbothered by guests coming down to breakfast still in yesterday's makeup. It suits people who ski hard during the day and treat après-ski as a genuine second event rather than a wind-down, and who would rather be five minutes from the Médran lift and the 4 Vallées' 410 kilometres of terrain than tucked away on a quiet hillside. The Parisian sensibility is not incidental, it is the whole premise, transplanted wholesale rather than diluted for the mountains. You should not come if you want a quiet, private mountain retreat, or if you find nightclub bass through a shared wall (however discreetly managed) a dealbreaker at 1am. You should come for the specific and fairly rare combination of serious skiing and a hotel that takes its bar programme as seriously as its ski concierge, in a town where most hotels choose one identity and stick to it. The short version: A 39-room chalet hotel in the centre of Verbier, run by the Experimental Group, interiors by Fabrizio Casiraghi, connected to the Farm Club nightclub, built for skiers who don't go to bed early.
