THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Octant Praia Verde
Octant Praia Verde sits inside a stretch of pine forest above one of the Eastern Algarve's most photographed beaches, in Castro Marim, five kilometres from the town centre and a fifteen-minute drive from the Spanish border town of Ayamonte. Built in 2006 and kept to a single floor, the 40-suite hotel belongs to Design Hotels, a fact that shows in details rather than declarations: no other property on this stretch of coast gives every guest a full kitchenette and a separate living room as standard, so the comforts of a rented villa arrive without leaving a design collective's oversight. Rooms with sea views add balconies, bathrobes and blackout blinds, and a few suites go further with a private pool. Families get real infrastructure here, not a poolside sticker: a water park, a children's pool, a kids club and babysitting sit alongside a gym, bike rental and hiking trails through the pines, and pets are welcome for a fee. There is a restaurant and bar for nights you don't want to cook, and a business centre and conference hall for trips that mix work with the beach. Faro airport is 57 kilometres away, so this rewards people driving the coast rather than those chasing a fast weekend off a plane. Anyone wanting nightlife, a city-centre base or a tower with a view over rooftops should look elsewhere; anyone travelling with children, or wanting a kitchen and room to spread out, will find the layout does work a hotel usually leaves to a rental agency. The forest muffles the road, the beach stays a short walk off, and the terrace outside each suite turns breakfast into something slower than most hotels allow. A 40-suite hotel in a Castro Marim pine forest, each suite with its own kitchenette and living room rather than just a bed. It suits families wanting space and self-catering, not travellers chasing nightlife or a city-centre base.

Guests do not need to leave the pine-forest grounds to eat, since the hotel runs its own restaurant and bar alongside a snack bar, in addition to the independent restaurants and bars found near the nearby beach. It is a practical option for evenings spent close to the pool or terrace.
Parking facilities are available for guests arriving by car, and other services include room service, a hotel shuttle bus, and a laundry service.
Rooms come equipped with air conditioning, heating, and a well-equipped kitchenette. They also offer complimentary WiFi and satellite TV.
Guests can relax in the outdoor pool area, which includes a separate swimming area for children and a sun terrace with lounge chairs and umbrellas.
The hotel's dining facilities include a generous buffet breakfast and a selection of a la carte dishes for lunch and dinner.
