The building beside Tünel station has stood in Pera since 1895, raised by an Italian architect next to what was then a novelty: the world's second-oldest underground railway. Rüzgar Çetin restored it in 2021 into a 25-room hotel that keeps its parquet floors and 3.2-metre ceilings rather than smoothing them into something generic. Istiklal Street is at the door, Galata Tower is a six-minute walk, and Galataport is about fourteen minutes further. Rooms split between City View, looking onto the old streets, and Art Rooms, which face a 300-square-metre mural by local artists, a detail unlikely to repeat down the street. Each room carries air conditioning, a minibar, an espresso machine, and a kettle stocked with tea and coffee; book directly and the minibar's non-alcoholic drinks and coffee are complimentary and refilled daily. The sixth-floor rooftop serves breakfast through dinner with a view over the rooftops at sunset, and the fitness centre includes a lap pool kept for guests only, not shared with the street. Staff speak English and Russian, and the hotel runs an airport shuttle, tour assistance, and 24-hour reception, along with wheelchair access and family rooms with playroom space for those travelling with children. This suits someone who wants Istanbul's street life outside the window and a building with an actual past, not a chain lobby. It will not suit anyone after resort quiet, a large pool deck, or distance from traffic and crowds; Istiklal Street's noise reaches the windows. What it offers instead is a hotel older than most of what surrounds it, and a rooftop worth sitting on until the light goes.
