THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Room Mate Emir
Room Mate Emir opened in 2017 in Istanbul, three kilometers from the city center, close enough to Istiklal Avenue, Taksim and the newer Galataport waterfront that most of the walking happens on foot rather than in a taxi. The hotel keeps to 47 rooms, a size that lets the staff learn a guest's name by the second morning and still run a full spa floor: a massage room, sauna and dedicated spa center that most 47-room properties in the city do not bother to fit in. Rooms are warmly finished rather than minimalist, each with a television, minibar and slippers, and a few categories, including a Standard Double Suite, add a private terrace for guests who want their coffee outside rather than in the breakfast room. A library sits off the lobby for anyone who reads instead of scrolls, and the concierge desk handles tour bookings, laundry and the airport transfer (40 EUR one way) without much fuss. Breakfast is not automatically included; adding it costs 9.95 EUR per person, and an extra bed runs 30 EUR a night, so families sharing a room should check what is covered before booking. There is no parking on site, which matters if arriving by car, and a 100 EUR daily deposit is taken at check-in against damage. Staff speak English and Turkish, check-in runs from 3pm and check-out is at noon. This suits the traveller who wants a proper spa without leaving a boutique-sized building and does not mind walking a few blocks to reach Taksim's crowds rather than stepping straight into them. It will not suit anyone chasing a car park or a hotel large enough to disappear in. Room Mate Emir keeps to 47 rooms three kilometers from Taksim, with a massage room, sauna and spa built into a boutique-sized footprint few competitors that size offer. It suits guests who want proper wellness without a big hotel, not those who need onsite parking or space to disappear.
