THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Lampa Design Hotel
Lampa Design Hotel sits in Şişli, a working neighborhood six kilometers from central Istanbul, close enough to walk toward Dolmabahce Palace and the Bosphorus Bridge but far enough to avoid the old-town crowds. The building incorporates antique gas lamps from Orhan Utan's collection within an industrial-minimalist design of natural wood parquet, marble staircases, cast-in mosaic and metal hardware, with facade details by architect Selami Çiçek, and no other design hotel in the city runs on quite this premise. Each of the 20 rooms, spread across five floors, carries a headboard or art piece drawn from the paintings of Fikret Mualla Saygı, so the corridors read more like a small gallery than a hotel. Rooms themselves are compact: Comfort rooms measure 18 square meters, Comfort Plus 22, and only two Deluxe Terrace rooms, at 30 square meters with private balconies and a jacuzzi, offer real space to spread out. Mornings happen at Lampa Lab, a terrarium-lined room built for breakfast and afternoon coffee that doubles as a spot for small gatherings. This suits a traveler who wants a considered building over a big one, who will trade square footage for craft and doesn't mind climbing to a fifth-floor room by lift. It will frustrate anyone bringing a car, since parking is nearby but chargeable, or a family needing extra beds, which run 34 EUR a night. Pets are not permitted. The staff work in English, transfers can be arranged, and late checkout is available for a slower start. What stays with you afterward is the lamps, not the lobby. Lampa Design Hotel in Şişli runs on a genuinely rare premise: antique gas lamps built into an industrial-minimalist interior, with rooms sized for craft over space. It suits travelers who want a considered building over a big one, not families needing extra beds or guests arriving by car.
