THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Bulgari Hotel, Shanghai
The Bvlgari Bar sits forty-seven floors up, its oval counter modeled on a Roman fountain, catching the Bund waterfront on one side and the Pudong skyline on the other. Below it, the hotel itself keeps a much smaller scale: 82 rooms across eight floors, built in 2017 on North Shanxi Road, about two kilometres from central Shanghai and a walk from the Bund, Zhapu Road and Nanjing Road's shops. That contrast, a jewellery house's precision applied to eight quiet floors rather than a tower of hundreds, is what separates it from the glass giants nearby. Room sizes run from a 560-square-foot Superior King to a 1,765-square-foot Premium Double Suite with skyline views; several of the rooms have a working fireplace, unusual for a hotel room in this city, and the Deluxe Suite adds floor-to-ceiling windows, a private library and 24-hour butler service. The pool, sauna, gym and library occupy their own corner, and spa treatments need booking ahead rather than a walk-in. A woman travelling for a design fair or a week of meetings will find the conference rooms and event space enough without needing to leave the building, though anyone chasing a big lobby scene or a poolside crowd should look elsewhere; this stays deliberately small. Families should note there's no kids' club, just babysitting on request, and a damage deposit of 4,000 CNY a day is taken at check-in. One practical note for anyone plotting the route on a map: China's geographic data rules blur the coordinates slightly, so the pin online won't sit exactly where the hotel does. The fireplace and the bar on the forty-seventh floor, though, are precisely where they should be. Eighty-two rooms across eight quiet floors, several with working fireplaces, and an oval bar forty-seven floors above the Bund: Bvlgari's smallest bet in Shanghai suits a design trip or a week of meetings more than a family holiday. The deposit is steep and the map pin is deliberately blurred.

Your taste already has an address

Guests can take part in a Tai Chi session, listed among the hotel's signature experiences alongside a Bvlgari chocolate-making class, Bund tours and museum visits. The slow, meditative practice offers an unhurried start to the day, reflecting the property's blend of a Shanghai setting with Italian-inflected hospitality.
