THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Sanchaya
The fast ferry from Singapore's Tanah Merah terminal takes fifty minutes to reach Bandar Bentan Telani, then a ten-minute chauffeured transfer delivers guests through private lounge clearance straight into a thirty-room estate on Bintan Island, spread across two floors and fronting its own stretch of beach. The 50-metre infinity pool anchors the property, with Tasanee Thai Grill serving Bangkok street-food-inspired plates beside it and The Dining Room, all French doors and rattan chairs, opening onto the South China Sea for European and Indonesian menus. Villas run from Junior King Suites to Standard Family Villas with private pools, each with a minibar, bathrobe and slippers as standard, while the spa works through Thai, Balinese and warm-stone treatments across four rooms and a set of outdoor cabanas in a lush garden. What sets The Sanchaya apart is its Kong Ming Dinner for Two: a nine-course beachfront meal under the stars that ends with guests releasing a paper lantern, a small ceremony borrowed from Chinese tradition that no amount of infinity pool can replicate. Sports-minded guests get a gym, yoga deck, diving club and bicycles; families get a playroom and babysitting; the more sedentary can take croquet or pétanque on the lawn instead. Worth knowing before booking: the property asks unmarried couples sharing a room to present a marriage certificate at check-in, a local requirement that will not suit everyone, and pets are not permitted. For a couple marking an anniversary, or a family wanting a villa with its own pool a short walk from the water, the arrival sets the tone: fifty minutes by ferry, a private lounge, then a chauffeured car before the room door opens. Thirty rooms and villas on a private beach on Bintan Island, reached by a fifty-minute ferry from Singapore and a private-lounge transfer. Its 50-metre infinity pool, wine cellar and nine-course lantern dinner for two set it apart. Unmarried couples note: a marriage certificate is required at check-in.

Stretching fifty metres toward the South China Sea, the infinity pool anchors The Sanchaya's Great House, framed by verandah and suite balconies above. Guests swim with uninterrupted ocean views, and the pool forms the scenic backdrop for both the Tasanee Thai Grill and the Dining Room, which are positioned to overlook its shimmering length.
