Galleria Vik Milano occupies rooms inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II itself, the glass-vaulted arcade Giuseppe Mengoni built between 1865 and 1877, its dome connecting Piazza del Duomo to Piazza della Scala, and the address alone sets it apart from Milan hotels that merely overlook the landmark from a few streets away. Across 86 rooms on five floors, walls are finished in stucco Veneziano in twenty color variations, and each room and suite functions as a site-specific installation from one of more than 100 artists, Italian, Uruguayan and international, so a Deluxe Gallery Room with balcony overlooks the arcade while a Scala Master Suite looks instead onto Piazza della Scala. Vik Pellico Otto, overlooking the Galleria's Octagono dome, serves breakfast, lunch, aperitivo and dinner, and Il Dodici Gatti, a sixth-floor pizzeria with its own terrace, does the same for the Milan skyline; downstairs, Prada's original store and the rest of the Galleria's fashion houses sit outside the door, with La Scala five minutes on foot and the Pinacoteca gallery ten.
