THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Hotel Brick
Hotel Brick's straw-yellow façade is quite literally imported: the bricks were carried from England as a ship's ballast in the early 1900s, when the building was raised as a private residence for the president of the Bank of London in Mexico. That inheritance still shapes the address at the corner of Orizaba and Tabasco Streets in Roma Norte, three kilometers from Mexico City's center and an easy walk from Insurgentes, Zona Rosa and the Angel of Independence Monument. Only 17 rooms sit across four floors, each with air conditioning, a minibar, an in-room safe and complimentary Wi-Fi, and the Deluxe rooms add a private balcony over Orizaba Street with a Nespresso machine and toiletries from Persea Apothecary. Downstairs, Cerrajería Restaurante, named for the building's earlier life as a locksmith's shop, runs under Executive Chef John Bertrand, who folds his mother's Mexican cooking into a menu built for lingering, while Hela Spa offers Nordic-technique massages across three private treatment rooms plus a sauna and steam room, a rarer combination for a hotel this size. Two rooftop terraces and a speakeasy lounge round out the communal spaces, and the concierge team builds itineraries out to Teotihuacán and Xochimilco for guests who want the city beyond the neighborhood. This suits travelers drawn to a house with a real past and a kitchen worth planning dinner around, less so anyone wanting a large resort footprint, a downtown-center address, or to bring a pet, since the hotel doesn't allow them. What lingers after checkout is less the room than the sense of having stayed inside someone else's very good idea for a house. Hotel Brick occupies a century-old Roma Norte mansion built from English brick ballast, its 17 rooms wrapped around Cerrajería Restaurante and a Nordic-technique spa. It rewards travelers who want a house with history and a kitchen worth booking ahead for, not those chasing a downtown address or resort scale.

THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT

Your taste already has an address

Brick Hotel occupies a house built in the early twentieth century for Sir William Newbold, President of the Bank of London in Mexico. Its straw-yellow bricks were shipped from England as a vessel's ballast, giving the building both its name and its distinctive facade, now reimagined as a boutique hotel in Colonia Roma.
