THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Sofitel Mexico City Reforma
At Sofitel Mexico City Reforma, cocktails at Cityzen arrive on the 38th floor with the whole of Paseo de la Reforma spread out below, the Angel of Independence lit up in the middle distance. Built in 2019 on the corner of Reforma and Rio Danubio, next to the US Embassy, the 40-story tower holds 275 rooms, 56 of them suites, a mile or so from Castillo de Chapultepec and about three miles from the historic center. Bajel, the hotel's 13th-floor restaurant led by chef Alonso Vidal, was recommended in the first edition of the Michelin Guide to Mexico, a line on the menu none of the other Reforma high-rises can match. Balta reworks Mexican and Mediterranean plates in a cosmopolitan room, Freehouse hides a speakeasy inside the property's original building, and the lobby bar keeps the French house style running at a quieter register. The spa uses L'Occitane products, there is a sauna and steam room for guests who want them, and the pool sits high enough that laps come with skyline views, open from six in the morning to eight at night. Meeting rooms, a business center and a 40th-floor ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows put this hotel to work for conference groups as easily as for couples chasing a view; a kids club and babysitting cover families, and pets are welcome for a deposit. It suits travelers who want altitude, French polish and a genuine Michelin mention over cobblestone charm, and it says so plainly: construction next door means occasional noise, and the historic center is a taxi ride, not a stroll, from the front door. A 40-story glass tower on Reforma, with a Michelin-noted restaurant, a 38th-floor pool and bar, and a spa built around L'Occitane treatments. It suits travelers who want altitude and French polish more than colonial streets, and pets travel too, for a deposit.

The hotel's own decor and Reforma setting continue that exchange, giving guests a chance to trace the historic dialogue between the two cultures.
