THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Ignacia Guest House
Breakfast at Ignacia Guest House happens two ways: at the long communal table inside the 1913 casona, or outside in the garden under an orange tree. The nine-suite guesthouse sits in Mexico City's Roma Norte, on Jalapa street, and takes its name from the housekeeper who ran this Porfirian mansion for over 70 years; the restoration keeps her decades close at hand, from the original walls holding the library, lobby and dining room, to the Master Suite tucked inside them with a black-marble bathroom. Upstairs, four townhouse suites share a patio built around a pyramidal, Maya-inspired hot tub, a detail no other guesthouse in the neighborhood claims. The remaining rooms, La Azul, La Verde, La Rosa and La Amarrilla, sit in a newer wing around a central patio, each with its own balcony or terrace and color scheme, and every room carries the same fixed points: a Nespresso machine, Bluetooth sound by Bose, blackout curtains and bottled water from Alameda. There is no elevator across the three floors and no 24-hour front desk, so this suits a traveler who wants quiet over convenience and doesn't mind a flight of stairs with a suitcase. Alcohol is not permitted on the property, and children under 12 aren't accepted, which rules out family trips and late-night drinks alike but keeps the library and garden hushed for the guests who do come. Wi-Fi runs free throughout, the concierge can arrange a tour, and the property will book an airport transfer for a surcharge. For everyone else, Roma Norte's restaurants and galleries sit a short walk from the door, and Ignacia stays exactly what it set out to be: a house, not a hotel. A nine-suite 1913 casona in Mexico City's Roma Norte, named for the housekeeper who ran it for 70 years, with breakfast under an orange tree and a Maya-inspired hot tub on the townhouse patio no neighbor matches. No elevator, no 24-hour desk, no alcohol, and children under 12 aren't accepted.
