THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Hotel Brosundet
Hotel Brosundet sits in the center of Alesund, close to the Port of Alesund, in a six-floor building holding 131 rooms behind a design-hotel exterior that favors clean lines over frills. Check-in runs from 3pm, checkout by noon, and the buffet breakfast starts early, 7am on weekdays and 8am on weekends, useful for anyone catching a fjord cruise or heading out on a rented bike. Rooms are simple rather than showy: pillowtop beds, flat-screen and cable TV, a shower or shower/bathtub, hairdryer, toiletries, and room service if the harbor walk can wait. One bridal suite exists for anyone wanting more space. What sets Brosundet apart from the usual harbor-town hotel is the range of things the front desk will arrange without fuss, a sauna and fitness room to end the day, a library if the weather turns, bicycles or a fishing trip in summer, ski passes and skiing access in winter, plus tour assistance and airport transfer for anyone building a longer Norway itinerary. There is a restaurant, Restauranthuset No5, and a bar for a slower evening, along with a conference hall and meeting rooms for anyone folding in a work trip. Pets are allowed, the building is wheelchair accessible including access to the restaurant, and staff work in English throughout. There is no parking on site, so this suits guests arriving by train, boat, or plane more than anyone driving in with a car. It is not a resort and does not try to be one, no pool, no spa treatments beyond the sauna, just a well-placed, well-run city hotel that also happens to be an outfitter for the fjords outside its door. A 131-room design hotel in central Alesund, minutes from the harbor, with a sauna, a fitness room, and a front desk that arranges bike rentals, fishing trips, and ski passes. There is no parking, so it suits travelers arriving by train, boat, or plane more than road-trippers.
