THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Hotel B
Hotel B occupies a white stucco mansion in Barranco, built in 1914 as a summer house for a wealthy Limeño family and reopened as a boutique hotel in May 2013 after extensive restoration. It is the only Relais & Châteaux property in Lima, a distinction that separates it from the city's business towers and chain hotels clustered near the coast. With just 17 rooms across three floors, the house runs on a scale that suits travelers who want to be recognized by name rather than room number, not those chasing rooftop pools or convention space. Mornings and afternoons center on the library, where breakfast and the hotel's signature "lonche" afternoon tea are served with Italian coffee, homemade Peruvian hot chocolate, seasonal fruit and traditional pastries. The dining room works local, seasonal ingredients into a fusion of Peruvian and international technique, while the ground-floor bar, set just off reception, draws as many Barranco locals as overnight guests. Outside, the patio sits between the historic and contemporary wings, its living wall, water feature and modern art giving guests a quiet place to eat away from the street. Rooms in the Atelier category run 36 to 42 square meters, most with a private terrace or vestibule and open-format bathrooms with double sinks, rain showers and separate WCs, some with freestanding tubs. Free bicycles make Barranco's galleries, cafes and the Pacific coastline an easy ride rather than a taxi trip. Staff speak English and Spanish, and a massage room and on-call doctor cover minor needs. Pets are not permitted. Book here for the address and the house itself, not for facilities a larger hotel would offer instead. A 1914 Belle Époque mansion in Barranco, Lima's only Relais & Châteaux hotel, with 17 rooms, a library tea service, and a courtyard patio. Suits travelers who want a house, not a hotel; skip it if you need a pool or conference space.
