The Cellars-Hohenort
Eight kilometres from central Cape Town, in the vineyard folds of Constantia Valley, The Cellars-Hohenort sits below Table Mountain inside gardens that have won a Gold Award for landscape and turf maintenance and a Silver Award for water-wise design from the South African Landscapers Institute. The building dates to 1991, a 51-room Relais & Chateaux property that reads more like a country house than a city hotel. In 2025 it earned a MICHELIN Key, the newest addition to a Tripadvisor Traveler's Choice Award it has picked up every year since 2021. Rooms range from a 291-square-foot Standard Double with its own balcony to an 807-square-foot Premier King Suite with garden views, and up to the opulent Madiba Villa for guests who want the run of a private house. The Conservatory restaurant still serves recipes favoured by founder Liz McGrath, and the days between meals fill with two heated pools, a tennis court, and a spa with sauna, steam room and massage treatments. There's a playroom for children, a picnic area, and staff who work in English and German, plus tour assistance and transfers for guests who'd rather not navigate the valley roads themselves. This suits travellers who want Cape Town's wine country without giving up full hotel service, and it will frustrate anyone expecting to walk to the city centre; the eight kilometres in mean a car or a shuttle. An extra bed costs 1,350 ZAR a night, when the room category allows one. What outlasts the pool count is the quieter fact: a hotel that collected a Traveler's Choice Award five years running before finally picking up a MICHELIN Key in 2025. The Cellars-Hohenort sits in Constantia Valley below Table Mountain, a 51-room Relais & Chateaux property that earned a MICHELIN Key in 2025. Rooms range from a compact Standard Double to the private Madiba Villa. It suits wine-country travellers more than those wanting a walk into central Cape Town.

The hotel hosts a traditional High Tea, complete with scones, cake and other treats, designed to slow guests down for an unhurried afternoon with friends. Rather than being rushed, the ritual is presented as a deliberate pause, reflecting the property's wider focus on rest and restoration during a stay.
