THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Lydmar Hotel
On Saturday afternoons in Lydmar Hotel's Dining Room, a jazz band plays from one until four while brunch runs on until five, and the walls holding court are hung with original prints by Andy Warhol, Robert Frank and James Nachtwey, part of a permanent collection built from more than sixty photography exhibitions since 2008. Few hotels in Stockholm can make that claim, and it shapes the whole stay: this is a place for guests who want art and atmosphere over formal service, not marble lobbies and stiff manners. The hotel sits on Blasieholmen, a short walk from Kungsträdgården and the Museum of Medieval Stockholm, with water views toward the Royal Palace. Inside, 46 rooms spread across five floors were reworked in 2018 and 2019 by Nude Ateljé's Eva-Lotta Axelson, each one individually furnished with its own share of the art collection, a minibar, bathrobe and slippers. Lydmar became the first hotel in Stockholm to join Small Luxury Hotels of the World, back in 2011, and still wears that history lightly. Downstairs, the spa runs to a sauna, steam room and massage treatments, and a small fitness room covers the basics. On the second-floor terrace, Villa Minuty, a concept otherwise found only in Paris and London, serves lunch, dinner and cocktails through summer, the only such address in the Nordics. Pets stay free, which will matter to some travellers and not others. What won't suit everyone is the scale: 46 rooms means no sprawling grounds, no anonymity, just a compact hotel that expects you to notice the photographs on your way to breakfast. Lydmar Hotel on Blasieholmen pairs a permanent collection of Warhol, Robert Frank and Nachtwey prints with Saturday jazz brunch and a spa built around sauna and steam room. Forty-six rooms, renovated 2018-2019, sit minutes from Kungsträdgården. It suits guests who want atmosphere over formality, not those seeking scale.
