THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Castello del Sole Beach Resort&SPA
Mornings here start at the water's edge: Castello del Sole sits on a private beach in Gordola, six kilometres from town, with the lake doing most of the talking. Across 78 rooms spread over just two low floors, guests get an indoor pool, an outdoor one, and a seasonal option outside, plus water sport facilities that most Swiss properties simply can't offer, since few resorts here control their own stretch of shoreline. The spa runs to sauna, steam room, solarium and massage, and there's a tennis court, table tennis, a library, bike rental and hiking routes for anyone restless after a swim, with golf three kilometres off for those who brought clubs. Rooms range from a Small Double at 484 sq ft to a Standard King Suite at 840, most with air conditioning, minibar, safe and a coffee setup, so the choice is really about space rather than comfort. Families are looked after with a playroom and a children's pool, and pets travel too, for a 35 CHF fee. Business groups have a conference hall and meeting rooms if the trip isn't purely leisure. Couples wanting quiet lake mornings will find it; anyone chasing city nightlife should look toward Lugano instead, given the six-kilometre gap to central Gordola. A city tax of CHF 6.10 per person per night applies locally, and gala dinner surcharges can appear at Swiss hotels around holidays, worth a call ahead. What stays with you is less the amenity list than the sense of having a beach that isn't shared with a town. The draw is a private beach and full water sport setup rarely found at a Swiss resort, backed by 78 rooms, two pools and a proper spa. Good for lake-focused stays, less so for those wanting Gordola's town life on the doorstep.

The resort's restaurant serves meals in a buffet style, supplemented by a separate snack bar and bar for lighter options throughout the day. Diet menus are available on request, and packed lunches can be arranged, making the dining setup flexible for guests with varied schedules or dietary needs.
