THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Boutique Hotel Glacier
At Boutique Hotel Glacier in Grindelwald, some of the 28 rooms and suites come with their own private outdoor whirlpool, positioned so guests can soak while looking straight at the Eiger. The hotel has held that spot since 1864, when it served ice workers hauling blocks from the Unterergletscher down to Interlaken; today the same address holds a MICHELIN Key and a wine list built on over 600 labels, largely from independent Swiss "Mémoire Suisse" producers, that won the Vinum Award for Best Wine List in Switzerland. Chef Marco Allemann runs the kitchen on seasonal Swiss produce, served à la carte or across a five-course menu, and the Cork Club next door turns tastings and cheese boards into an evening on their own. Downstairs, a log-lined sauna, hammam and quiet relaxation area sit alongside a heated outdoor whirlpool open all year. Skiers can walk to lift access and store gear on site; hikers get trails from the door. This suits couples and pairs of friends chasing a slower, wine-and-mountain kind of stay rather than families, since children under eight aren't permitted, and pets travel with their own daily fee. With only 28 rooms, service stays personal rather than processed, and the elevator and wheelchair access mean the property doesn't ask guests to choose between comfort and mobility. What sets it apart from other Grindelwald boutique hotels is that whirlpool-with-Eiger-view pairing, built into the rooms rather than tacked onto a shared terrace. Book here for the wine list and the view from the tub, not for a quiet family week. A MICHELIN Key, a 600-bottle Swiss wine list and rooms with private whirlpools facing the Eiger set this 28-room Grindelwald hotel apart. Children under eight aren't admitted, so it reads as a couples' retreat built around wine, spa and ski access rather than family holidays.

Grindellodge, part of the Glacier group, traces a long history between Grindelwald and Japan, from Kaga Shotaro's 1910 ascent of the Jungfrau to Tsujimura Isuke's 1914 winter first ascents of the Monch and Jungfrau, documented in his Swiss Diary. These pioneering climbers' stories, and period imagery of the Bernese Oberland, are preserved and displayed at the property today.
