THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Capra Saas-Fee
Walk a kilometre from Saas-Fee's centre and the lifts are already in view, Stafelwald and Plattjen close enough to reach on foot. The Capra opened in 2014 and keeps things small, 24 rooms spread over four floors, which means no queue at the ski shuttle and no crowd around the indoor or outdoor pool. Skiers get proper ski-in access, a ski school and complimentary ski shuttle, while the sauna, steam room and fitness room cover the après side without a shared spa scrum. The one thing peers in the valley don't offer is the private spa suite: its own steam bath, Finnish sauna and hydrotherapy pool, booked by the hour, so a couple or a family can have the whole thing to themselves rather than trading space with other guests. Rooms have balconies, stocked minibars, rainfall showers and proper toiletries; the Signature Suites add a separate living room and sofa bed at 45 square metres, useful for a family of three. Two restaurants, a lounge bar and round-the-clock room service handle meals, breakfast running 7 to 11am. A library, ping-pong table, mini golf and a children's playroom fill the gaps between slopes and spa, and there's a conference hall for anyone folding work into the trip. It suits couples wanting a quiet, well-run base and families who need a playroom as much as a piste, less so anyone counting every franc: parking, airport transfer, pets and a possible gala dinner surcharge all come as extras, standard practice at this level in Switzerland but worth knowing before you book. Twenty-four rooms means it fills fast in high season, and that's exactly the point. Twenty-four rooms, one private spa suite booked by the hour, and lifts a short walk away: The Capra suits couples and families after quiet over quantity, not travellers chasing resort-scale buzz.
