Ask for a room with a terrace and you wake looking straight at Schloss Tarasp, the castle the hotel has been shadowing for five hundred years. Eighteen rooms, no more, paneled in Engadine pine, mean nobody is competing for a table at breakfast or a spot in the sauna. That intimacy, paired with its Relais & Châteaux membership, sets it apart from the larger alpine resorts filling this valley: one of the few hotels here built around a single family's cooking and a single castle's view, rather than a chain's spa menu. Chef Andreas Heidenreich runs the kitchen, working regional produce into the kind of dinner that anchors the day after hiking or skiing the nearby lifts.
