THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Hotel Storchen Zurich
Coffee at Hotel Storchen Zurich comes with the Limmat sliding past the window and Weinplatz waking up below, a view that explains why wine and vegetable merchants have stopped here since the 14th century, fresh from the nearby bridge market. The current building dates to 1938 and holds 67 rooms across five floors, two minutes from Bahnhofstrasse and walking distance to St. Peter Church, Zurich Town Hall and Fraumünster, close enough to the financial district to walk to a meeting instead of catching a cab. What sets it apart from other addresses in the old town is the river itself: guests can swim in the Limmat right beside the hotel, in water clean enough to drink, which no amount of marble lobby elsewhere in Zurich can offer. The rooftop bar, once the private view of nesting storks, now pours drinks and small snacks for anyone who rides the lift up, while La Rôtisserie and the Barchetta Bar handle dinner and the slow hours after, and a cigar room covers the rest. Rooms come with bathrobes, minibars and Nespresso machines, with wheelchair-accessible and family options among the sixty-seven. A gym, spa treatments, a conference hall and staff fluent in seven languages round out the practical side, and pets stay for a nightly fee. It suits a couple who wants a terrace over a treadmill and a traveller who values a five-minute walk over a shuttle. It suits less anyone who wants everything bundled into the room rate, since parking, airport transfers and extra beds all arrive as separate charges. What lingers after checkout is the water, not the marble. Hotel Storchen Zurich sits on the Limmat at Weinplatz, where guests can swim in drinking-quality river water beside a rooftop bar once reserved for nesting storks. Sixty-seven rooms and a cigar room suit walkers more than poolside loungers, and parking, transfers and extra beds cost extra.
