THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Peninsula Bangkok
The hotel's own boat crosses the Chao Phraya in minutes, docking at a private pier that belongs only to The Peninsula Bangkok, on the quieter Thonburi bank near Sathorn Bridge. Built in 1998 and shaped like a W, the 37-floor tower gives every one of its 370 rooms a straight view of the river, a guarantee few hotels in this city can make. Rooms carry separate soaking bathtubs, designer toiletries, minibars and LCD televisions, and the Terrace Grand Suite alone runs past 2,500 square feet for anyone who wants room to spread out. Several restaurants and bars cover Thai, Cantonese and international menus, backed by 24-hour room service for anyone who would rather not leave the room at all. The three-tiered outdoor pool runs 88 metres along the water, framed by Thai salas, close enough to the river that the swim feels like an extension of it. The spa occupies its own three-story Thai building on the riverbank, its private suites facing the Chao Phraya while treatments blend Thai, European and Ayurvedic techniques. Business travelers get a 24-hour fitness centre with steam rooms, sauna and cold plunge pools, families get babysitting and children's amenities, and none of it changes the fact that reaching the malls and markets on the other side of the river takes a boat or a car first. Suvarnabhumi Airport is 45 minutes away, and when traffic backs up, the hotel's own boat to Charoen Nakhon BTS station is often the faster way into town than the road ever is. Every one of the 370 rooms in this W-shaped tower faces the Chao Phraya, reached by the hotel's own boat to the quieter Thonburi bank. It suits river-view seekers and pool lovers, not those wanting shops within walking distance.

Built in 1998, the hotel's distinctive W-shaped tower was designed so that every one of its rooms faces the Chao Phraya River, turning the building into a recognisable fixture of the Bangkok skyline. The riverside setting in Thonburi keeps the hotel close to the city's business and shopping districts while feeling apart from them.
