THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Casa do Conto
Behind a nineteenth-century bourgeois façade on Rua da Boavista, Casa do Conto keeps just six rooms spread across three floors, a scale that feels closer to a private residence than a hotel. Suites pair designer furniture with period pieces, open onto balconies, and look out over the city, and a library gives guests somewhere to read that isn't the lobby. The neighbourhood rewards walking: Bom Sucesso Market, the galleries along Rua de Miguel Bombarda and Casa da Musica are all reachable on foot, and the Church of Cedofeita sits 200 metres from the door. The Carolina Michaelis and Lapa Metro stations are a two-minute walk away, useful for anyone covering more of Porto than this one street. There is no 24-hour reception, so check-in and check-out are handled privately instead, and the concierge will arrange a restaurant booking or a city tour when asked. Parking isn't included: the nearest option is public, chargeable, and costs 15 euros a day. Staff speak English and Spanish. What separates Casa do Conto from the boutique hotels nearby isn't the period building so much as the count: six rooms is small enough that the library, the restaurant and the house itself still feel like they belong to the people staying in them, not to passing foot traffic. A couple or a solo traveller who wants Porto's centre within reach but not at the door will find it suits them well. Anyone who needs a front desk staffed at 4am, or room enough for a crowd, should book elsewhere. Six rooms in a nineteenth-century house on Rua da Boavista, a library instead of a lobby, and a concierge who handles the rest. There's no 24-hour desk, so late arrivals should look elsewhere. Porto's centre and two Metro stations are a two-minute walk away.
