The hotel they knew began in 1888 as a hunting lodge for the Habsburgs, Austria's last imperial family, before it was converted into one of Lake Garda's first grand hotels, and in 1989 it was recognised as a National Heritage Site, a line on the résumé that no other address on this lake can borrow.
