Masseria Palombara
Masseria Palombara occupies a restored limestone farmhouse in Oria, in Puglia's Salento, set within 100 hectares of olive, almond and palm groves that the resort still farms. The restaurant plates produce grown on that land, alongside wines from nearby Manduria, and mornings arrive with a rooster's crow rather than an alarm. It is an adults-only property, and none of its 22 rooms have a television, a deliberate omission for guests who came for the groves rather than a screen. Couples wanting a quiet anniversary, and travellers drawn to a working farm rather than a manicured resort, will feel at home; families with children, and anyone wanting a lively center nearby, should look elsewhere, since Oria's town center sits three kilometers off and there is no elevator on site. What separates it from Puglia's other converted masserie is the working estate itself: guests can pick a fig from the tree, watch pasta made by hand, and take spa treatments built around the property's own olive oil. Two pools, a small spa with massage, sauna and steam rooms, and a gym and yoga area cover the active side, while a library and a ping-pong table suit slower afternoons. The restaurant, bar, cafe and poolside bar handle meals, with vegetarian, gluten-free and diet-menu options, and staff speak English, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Turkish. Free Wi-Fi, parking, airport transfers and a concierge desk cover the practical side, though the pool itself runs only from May to October. What stays with you afterward is the quiet: no screens in the rooms, just groves, a working kitchen, and a rooster instead of a phone. An adults-only farmhouse on 100 hectares of working groves in Puglia's Salento, with two pools, an olive-oil spa, and rooms without televisions. Best suited to couples seeking quiet, not those wanting a lively center nearby, since the town sits three kilometers off and the pool runs only May to October.
