THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Seven Rooms Villadorata
Seven Rooms Villadorata occupies the upper floors of Palazzo Nicolaci, the 18th-century town house of the Princes of Villadorata, on Noto's Via Cavour, a few steps from the cathedral and the town hall. Wake in one of the nine rooms and take coffee at a window that frames the Baroque rooftops of the historic centre, itself part of the Val di Noto UNESCO site. Some suites keep frescoes from the original palazzo and look out over the historic centre and the coastline beyond. A private terrace, open only by reservation, looks west to the dome of the Chiesa Madre di San Nicolò and south toward the Vendicari coast and Portopalo di Capo Passero, a sweep of view few other addresses in Noto's centre can offer. Downstairs, Osteria Villadorata runs out of the palazzo's original stone cellars, its cooking built on local ingredients and shaped by chefs Ida Brenna and Matteo Carnaghi. Breakfast is served each morning, and a concierge handles everything from car rental to dry cleaning in English, Italian, German or French. Being adults only, it answers to couples and solo travellers wanting quiet rather than groups travelling with children. With only nine rooms and a terrace open by reservation only, spontaneity is limited: guests are asked to let the property know their arrival time ahead of check-in. A cleaning tax is charged separately at the property, and gala dinner fees can apply, as at other hotels in Italy, so it is worth confirming directly with the property before booking. What stays with you afterward is not the room but the view from that terrace, the sense of having borrowed, briefly, a prince's own vantage point over the town. An 18th-century palazzo turned nine-room retreat in Noto's historic centre, with frescoed suites, a reservation-only terrace looking toward Vendicari, and an osteria set in the original cellars. Adults only, it suits a quiet couple more than a family trip. Book ahead, especially for the terrace.
