THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Berghotel Ladinia
Berghotel Ladinia opened in 1930 as one of Corvara's first inns, and it still holds licence number one. Thirteen wood-panelled rooms carry the names of Ladin legends, Dolasilla, Lujanta, Moltina, Sommavida, each under twenty square metres, with spring water from the Dolomites running through the taps and carpets, wardrobes and cushions that have been telling the same old stories for decades. The hotel sits in the centre of Corvara in Badia, a few minutes on foot from the lower stations of the Col Alto, Costes da l'Ega and Boe lifts, with ski-in, ski-out access in winter and the same trails opening up for hiking and cycling once the snow goes. Unlike most alpine inns that shutter for the shoulder seasons, this one opens with the first spring crocuses and only closes once the larches have finished turning gold. Half board here means a proper four-course dinner served in the timber Stuben after a generous breakfast, plus a bar where the staff move between Ladin, Italian, German and English depending on who's ordering. Guests under ten aren't accepted, so the rooms suit couples and solo travellers after quiet rather than families with young children, who are better placed at Ciasa Teresa, the hotel's own apartment a short walk from the main house. What Ladinia has that its newer neighbours in Corvara cannot claim is time, over ninety years under the same licence, the same name and rooms named for a mountain princess rather than a corporate brand guideline. That kind of provenance cannot be renovated into existence. Corvara's first licensed inn, running since 1930 under licence number one, with thirteen wood rooms named for Ladin legends. Half board means a four-course Stuben dinner and ski-in, ski-out access in winter. Guests under ten aren't accepted; young families fit better at the hotel's own apartment, Ciasa Teresa.

Each of the inn's thirteen wood-lined rooms carries the name of a Ladin legend, such as Dolasilla, Lujanta, Moltina and Sommavida, figures drawn from the mythology of the Fanes kingdom. The naming reflects the property's roots in local Ladin culture, an identity also heard in the bar, where staff greet guests in Ladin before switching to Italian, German or English.
A cleaning tax is payable separately at the hotel and is not included in the room rate.
