THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Monastero Arx Vivendi
Arco's old monastery no longer holds monks; it holds a spa, a pool, and forty guest rooms behind stone walls that have kept quiet for centuries. Monastero Arx Vivendi, near Lake Garda, converted its cloistered architecture into a hotel without erasing the shape of what came before, so guests still move through passages that once structured a religious day, now leading to a sauna, a garden, and a bar instead of a chapel. The Standard King Room and the Garden View room both run to 269 square feet, fitted with air conditioning, a minibar, slippers, toiletries, and soundproofing that the original thick walls reinforce rather than fight. A Luxury Double Room sits above these, though its photos and size were not on file here. This suits a couple wanting quiet architecture with modern comfort layered in, or two people combining a stay with a short work trip: wheelchair access extends to the restaurant, an elevator serves the building, and a conference hall handles small meetings on-site. Drivers get a garage and electric car charging. Anyone travelling with a pet should look elsewhere, since pets are not allowed. A cleaning tax is charged separately at the hotel, and Italy's mandatory gala dinner fees can apply, so it is worth confirming with the hotel directly what a rate actually includes. What separates this from other properties along the lake is the building itself: an actual monastery turned hotel, not an interior designed to look like one. Check-in from 14:30 and checkout by 10:30 keep arrivals and departures unhurried. A monastery in Arco converted into a 40-room hotel, with a spa, pool, and garden behind its original stone walls. It suits a quiet stay with modern comfort layered in, not a guest bringing a pet. The building's history is what makes it different.
