THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Tenuta Di Tramonte
Lorenzo tends to find new guests early, keen to explain how the convent behind his family's fifteenth-century Villa Trenta became the seven rooms of Villa Volpi, and how he and his partner Laurence walked away from careers in finance and entrepreneurship after one olive harvest changed their minds about what mattered. That story is the thing peers in this part of Tuscany rarely have: a guesthouse run by the people who actually farm the land, eight kilometres outside Lucca, producing their own olive oil and pointing guests toward the hidden lakes of Garfagnana instead of the usual circuit. Days here settle into a rhythm rather than an itinerary: breakfast, the sun deck or the sauna and spa, a game of billiards, dinner in the restaurant, coffee on the terrace among the garden furniture. There is no elevator, so anyone unsteady on stairs should ask about room location, and pets are not permitted, so this is not a trip for the dog. Wheelchair accessibility features are built in regardless. Free Wi-Fi, concierge, laundry, dry-cleaning and multilingual staff cover the practical side without making a fuss of it. Check-in starts at four, checkout is ten, and an extra bed runs fifty euros a night depending on the room. What stays with you is less the list of what is on offer than the sense of having been folded into a real, ongoing project: Lorenzo's grandparents were from Lucca, Laurence came from Belgium, and together they turned an old convent back into a working farm that happens to also take guests. Seven rooms folded around a fifteenth-century convent outside Lucca, run by a couple who left finance and entrepreneurship to farm the land and produce their own olive oil. No elevator, no pets, and check-in only from four in the afternoon.

THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT

Your taste already has an address

A swimming pool sits among the estate's private gardens, one of the special attributes distinguishing Tenuta di Tramonte from typical Tuscan countryside stays. Framed by sprawling views over the surrounding land, the pool and gardens give guests at the seven-room Villa Volpi a quiet outdoor retreat between excursions to nearby off-the-beaten-path villages and lakes.
