THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Heidelberg Suites Boutique Hotel by Small Luxury Hotels of The World
Heidelberg Suites occupies a cluster of 19th-century villas above the Neckar, a short walk from the old town and close enough to the Karl Theodor Bridge to reach it on foot before breakfast. The hotel belongs to Small Luxury Hotels of the World, yet what sets it apart is scale: just 25 rooms across four floors, each designed individually by Christine Hütter-Bönan, who blends her years in Florence with the German setting outside the window. Rooms come with bathrobes, slippers and minibars, and several categories add an indoor fireplace, a detail few city hotels bother with. The Signature Queen Master Suite with Balcony is the largest, at 592 square feet with its own balcony, while the Penthouse Double Room sleeps up to four adults and three children, useful for a family taking one room instead of two. Downstairs there is a sauna, steam room, spa tub and fitness room, a library, and a restaurant that also serves breakfast in the room on request. Bikes can be rented for the trails along the Philosophenweg, and the hotel runs its own airport transfers and shuttle service. Staff speak English and German, and check-in or check-out can be moved for a 200 EUR fee. It suits a couple or solo traveller wanting an individually designed room close to the old town more than anyone set on a rooftop pool, since a spa tub stands in for one here. Founded in 2008 as Peter Hütter's first boutique hotel in Germany, it has kept that original idea: no two rooms look alike, and none of them look like a chain. Twenty-five individually designed rooms in a 19th-century villa above the Neckar, several with indoor fireplaces and none alike. Part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, a short walk from Heidelberg's old town, with a spa tub standing in for a pool.

Founder Peter Hütter laid the foundation stone for Heidelberg Suites in 2008, opening what became Germany's first boutique hotel. Drawing inspiration from legendary hospitality spots he discovered while travelling, he set out to bring the stylish elegance of Parisian living to Heidelberg, a vision that still defines the hotel's atmosphere.
Early check-in or late check-out can be arranged for an additional fee of 200 EUR.
