THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
La Medusa Dimora Di Charme Hotel and Boutique Spa
The floors underfoot are hand-painted Vietri ceramic, laid across a villa that has been converted room by room rather than built from scratch, and that alone separates La Medusa Dimora di Charme from the newer resorts stacked along this stretch of coast. It sits in Castellammare di Stabia, at the start of the Sorrento Coast, inside a mature park thick with flowers, a short drive from Pompeii and about fifteen kilometres from Sorrento. Rooms and the terrace look out over the Gulf of Naples, and the forty-nine rooms are spread across four floors, so the place never feels like it is stacking guests. There is an indoor pool for cooler mornings and an outdoor one for the rest of the day, plus a sauna, steam room, massage room and solarium for anyone who wants the day to slow down without leaving the property. A gym exists for people who keep training on holiday, and a diving club for the ones who came for the water instead. Staff switch between English, Italian, German and French without missing a beat, and a conference hall and business center sit a floor away from the spa, which makes this a workable base for a short work trip stretched into a weekend. Airport transfers can be arranged for a flat fee, extra beds come at a nightly charge, and a cleaning tax is settled locally rather than folded into the room rate. Check-in from four in the afternoon, out by eleven the next morning. It reads as a garden estate with a coastline attached rather than a resort with a garden bolted on, and it will not suit anyone chasing nightlife over Pompeii's ruins. A converted villa on the Sorrento Coast with hand-painted Vietri floors, Gulf of Naples views, and both indoor and outdoor pools. Good for slow mornings and short work trips alike, not for anyone wanting nightlife over ruins.

The property began as a private villa and still sits within a mature, flower-filled park that opens onto spectacular views of the Gulf of Naples. A short drive from Pompeii and Sorrento, the grounds give guests a quiet, green counterpoint to the coast's busier towns while keeping major sights within easy reach.
